The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom | Downtown Toronto Cleaning Service

The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom | Downtown Toronto Cleaning Service

Are the 3 dust culprits in your bedroom making you feel like you’re constantly enveloped in a dust-cloud? You know those times when the sun beams in through your window? You can see all the little dust particles swirling around! Or what about when you go to pick up something just to have to blow the dust off? Unfortunately, no matter how clean your home is, dust always seems to find its way into the picture. Though it’s a struggle everyone must face, why do you need to live in a horror film?

The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Bedroom
The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Bedroom

On top of that, dust is not just a mere annoyance. It can be particularly harmful for people who suffer from asthma, allergies or other breathing problems. How rude! Though there’s many inevitable things that make up the dust in the air (like hair, skin cells, and fabric fibers) there are ways to minimize the dust you produce and clean your bedroom more efficiently!

The Dust In Your Bedroom

Like all dust ever, the dust in your bedroom contains dust mites. These weeny, microscopic bugs live off of the dead skin cells that we and our furry friends shed. In fact, researchers at Ohio State University found that a used mattress contains at least 100,000 of these little guys! Though the mites are pretty harmless to most people, they can trigger allergic reactions in those prone to asthma, and those allergic to the mites themselves!

The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Pug
The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Pug

So where do these dust mites love to hide and how should we combat them? Glad you asked! We’ll reveal the 3 biggest places dust mites are hiding and how you can combat them! But first, we need to tell you that the overarching way reduce dust in your bedroom is by cleaning it, once a week. Yep, the floors, curtains, furniture, window frames…even the tops of doors. If you’re stressing about the time factor but prioritize clean living, consider calling a cleaning service!  However, there a few things you can do on your own to minimize the dust you collect on the daily.

Dust Culprit #1: Your Bed is Dust

Sorry to scare you, but your cozy bed is a major bedroom-dust culprit. Not only does your bed contain a lot of dust, it distributes dust around the room! Constantly.  And your bed isn’t only shedding the residue that comes off of you and your pets, it’s shedding its own fibres too.  Yep, all that stuff we call dust swirls around your bedroom every time you fluff your covers up or dive into them headfirst after a long day of work. Great.

The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Bed
The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Bed

When you’re ready to minimize the dust factor of your bed, start washing your sheets and pillows once a week! For simple ¨clean as you go” bed care, shake your sheets out when you’re making your bed in the morning to get any dust off. Similarly, give your pillows a good wack and fluff them up! Because at the end of the day, keeping your bed as clean as possible is the key to minimizing dust!

Dust Culprit #2: Your Closet is Dust

Because your closet holds all your towels, bedding, clothing and shoes, it’s a dust haven filled with all sorts of things from dust bunnies to floating fibres! The more stuff and clutter you have sitting around, the more chance there is for dust to collect. In fact, every time you open the closet door you unleash a tiny invisible dust storm  into your bedroom! Don’t think you can go on like this? I don’t blame you. There’s a simple solution: keep your closet clean and organized.

The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Closet
The 3 Dust Culprits in Your Bedroom Closet

Kick off the bedroom closet cleaning with a good purge, because the less items you have, the less stuff there is to shed and host dust! Once you’ve cleaned out your closet and given it a good wipe down, consider putting your items in boxes or containers to keep things tidy and organized. If you’re using your closet as a storage space for old winter coats, consider placing them in garment bags. That way, their fibres won’t shed and contribute to the overall dustiness of your closet!

Dust Hack: when you’re vacuuming the area, remember to pick up any shoes that may be on the floor. Dust bunnies love to accumulate near shoes, so move them aside and get in there to extinguish all the dust from your closet!

Dust Culprit #3: Your Air is Dust

At the end of the day, a little dust is inevitable. And it’s no secret that the air in your home just isn’t the cleanest. With this in mind, your job is to be on the defensive. When it comes to reducing general bedroom dust, you’ll want to think about air filters. Apartment Therapy recommends using an HEPA (high efficiency particulate absorption) air filter. However, you can also purify the air by getting dust eating house plants! Just remember that indoor plants require much more commitment from you than a filter does, especially in the winter.

4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless | Liberty Village Maid Service

4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless | Liberty Village Maid Service

Bathrooms are not fun places to spend time in, which is why you need to get into these 4 habits to keep your bathroom spotless! Sure, you can dress them up, clean them, paint them…But at the end of the day, a bathroom is a bathroom that can get messy. Not to mention germy and smelly. When you live on your own, it’s easy to keep track of your bathroom! The trouble starts however, when there’s more than one user. When you live with a roommate, partner or family, the bathroom will quickly become a high traffic zone. So you’re going to want to do everything you can to keep those invisible germs at bay! You’ve been in a public restroom, you need no further convincing.

Keeping Your Bathroom Clean Habits:

A Theory-Based Habit

The truth is, cleaning the bathroom would be much less daunting if it didn’t mean dealing with a massive pile-up. Just like an apple a day keeps the doctor away, so too does a clean a day keep the big clean at bay! You may have heard of the clean-as-you-go theory in our other article on steps to cleaning when you’re depressed. Yet the advice still rings true. If you wait weeks between cleanings, you’ll just create a daunting monster mess! Why let it get to that point when doing things like wiping down counters, emptying the trash can and giving the mirrors a quick wipe down takes no time at all and shave months of cleaning off of your life?

4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless notebook
4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless Notebook

The Bathroom Habits

1. Shower Habits

This is going to sound intrusive, but there’s something you should start doing every time you take a shower! Just like your kitchen sink, your shower doesn’t get cleaned just because you do. So to clean as you go, keep a spray bottle filled with vinegar and water by your shower. Now every time you clean yourself, your shower can get clean too! Unfortunately, vinegar is not good on natural stone surfaces- but everything else is fair game. You can be sure that the next time you or a cleaning service goes in there for a deep clean, the area will be ready for much lighter maintenance!

2. Laundry Habits

It’s easy to get into the habit of leaving your clothes on the bathroom floor when you get into the shower. It’s also a difficult habit to break, but maybe you don’t have to! Instead of stripping down and throwing the clothes around willy-nilly, move a clothes hamper into your bathroom! And throw them in there instead. That’s right, not only will the extra hamper help you be more organized with laundry, it will instantly unclutter your bathroom! However, if you don’t feel like moving your hamper or buying a new one, you could always just discipline yourself and make a rule that no clothes shall lay on the bathroom tile…But… c’mon.

3. Garbage Habits

Depending on what’s going on in your life, the garbage you produce could be tame, or it could be scary. So when that unquestionable smell is coming from your garbage bin, it’s time to take the trash out out! Believe it or not, taking out the trash before it gets too full actually relieves stress in the long run! This is because your mind sees full trash cans as clutter, just another thing to take care of later. It’s strange, but just like an empty laundry hamper can soothe your mind, so too can an empty trash can have some positive psychological effects.

4. Fan Habits

One of the biggest problems with indoor air in wet spaces like bathrooms is mildew. Ultimately, the best way to a mildew free bathroom is to decrease moisture. Luckily, most bathrooms now have fans. And thank god, because proper ventilation is the only way to create healthy air flow in such a small space! If your bathroom has a fan in it, get into the habit of turning it on every time you enter. Remember to turn it off when you leave, though you should let it run for twenty minutes after you take a shower clear out the extra moisture!

4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless Vents
4 Habits to Keep Your Bathroom Spotless Vents

As humans, we’re wired to carry out the habits that we’ve let ourselves fall into. But the greatest part about being human is that we can change current habits in favor of healthier ones! Though these three habit-breaking suggestions will take a little adjustment, the pay-off will be worth it. Because a) your bathroom be spotless and b) you can feel good knowing that you’re living cleanly and effectively. Why create extra work for yourself by being sloppy? Remember, clean as you go. Hopefully, you’ll start to see progress soon enough!

5 Xmas Cleaning Hacks You Need ASAP | Maid4Condos Cleaning Service

5 Xmas Cleaning Hacks You Need ASAP | Maid4Condos Cleaning Service

The holidays are a joyous time with friends and family, but if you’re tidying your own home after a celebration, there are 5 Xmas cleaning hacks that you need ASAP! After the celebrations die down, wouldn’t it be nice to relax in a clean space instead of staring into clutter? So before you go on vacation,  it’s time to get those cleaning gloves on! Now is not the time to procrastinate. In fact, prolonging the cleaning process will just stress you out more. Yep, that means it’s time to clean your home efficiently so you can stop wasting energy thinking about it!

We List 5 Christmas Hacks This Year:

Hack #1: Cherish & Organize!

You spent so long perfecting your decorations, so be sure to take a picture of your hard work before tearing it all down! You don’t have to post the pics online; they can just be for you. Once you’re satisfied with your documentation, it’s time to think about taking the ornaments down from the tree.

When it comes to storing these bad boys, separate the breakables from non-breakables. You can wrap the breakables up in newspaper or bubble wrap. You can even wrap your ornaments in tissue paper left over from gifts! Tuck the ornaments away in the boxes they came in, or the box you’ve dedicated to your Christmas décor, so you know know exactly what’s what next year. A super hack when it comes to Christmas lights: wrap the lights around an old wrapping paper tube to keep it organized!

Hack #2: Xmas Tree Troubles?

If you’re dealing with a real tree, you must be up to your ankles in pine needles! But honestly, we’d take a few pine needles over the disadvantages of artificial trees any day. Luckily, there’s a few simple tricks when it comes to cleaning up needles. First, you can try using a large lint roller to pick up fallen tree debris. Alternatively, wrap duct tape around your hand or the end of a Swiffer-type mop (sticky side up) and press down to collect the fallen needles and debris!

Trick #3: Chow Down & Clear Out!

With all the events you’ve hosted and attended this holiday season, your fridge is likely to be pretty full. That means now is the time to chow down or chuck out those leftovers that have been piling up in your freezer! Plus, it’s also a great chance to do the fridge clean-up you’ve been wanting to cross off your bucket list.

If you’re experiencing any psychological stress when you even think about cleaning out your fridge, remember to take it slow. Start by clearing out one shelf at a time, with a trash bag by your side. Rip it off like a bandaid! While you’ve got your gloves on, give the fridge interior a quick clean by wiping down the shelves and walls. Your kitchen could probably use a good once over, too!

Hack #4 Sanitize, Sanitize, Sanitize

With so many people coming through your home during holidays, your bathroom (especially your guest bathroom) has likely endured a little- ahem- over use. With that said, your bathroom could definitely use a little extra TLC after the holiday traffic! You don’t need to go all out, but at least give your mirrors a once over with a microfiber cloth to get off any smudges or spots. In addition, make sure you give the faucets and handles a wipe down with your favorite cleaner or simple DIY solutions!

Hack #5: Make it Fun!

If there’s one thing that Christmas is all about, it’s family bonding! So why have all the clean-up fun on your own? Cleaning up should be something that the whole family gets in on! If you live alone, you might be lucky enough to have a kind friend or relative that will stay and help you clean. However, if you don’t,  Maid4Condos will always be there to fulfill your cleaning needs! (Tip: we have an awesome holiday promotion until 31/12/17!)

Start Avoiding the Worst Part About Traveling | Cleaning Service Toronto

Start Avoiding the Worst Part About Traveling | Cleaning Service Toronto

Nowadays, flying is necessary for any real getaway- but you could start avoiding the worst part about traveling. As the holidays draw nearer, many of us are gearing up for that flight that will whisk us away from our cold, little Canadian lives. Unless you have chronic fear of being dragged out of a seat you paid way too much for, you may be wondering what the worst part about travelling really is…

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Airport
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Airport

I hate to break it to you friend, but travelling on an airplane actually increases your chances of getting sick – just in time for the holidays! Not only are the surfaces of the aircraft dirtier than your cell phone, but the close proximity to other passengers significantly increases your chances of catching a cold. So, in addition to recommending the flu1`shot, I’m going to share 4 tips that will help you avoid getting sick after your next flight. And yes, “anti-vacciners”, you can benefit from these tips too.

How Do Planes Make You Sick?

As I mentioned, being forced into close proximity with other flyers increases the likelihood that you will be exposed to infectious diseases and common illness. In fact, the Wall Street Journal cited a study that found that the chance of catching a cold is 20% greater when you’re on a plane. Though it’s easy to see how planes are breeding grounds for bacteria, did you know that the boarding process itself is cause for concern?

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Boarding
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Boarding

Yep, according to a study by Arizona State University the standard industry boarding process of loading passengers by zone is the worst scenario when it comes to health. Simply because boarding from front to back means more opportunity for lingering. For instance, if there’s a sick passenger sitting near the front of the plane, everyone must pass by them to get to their own seat. Similarly, if there’s one sick person headed towards the back, they must pass by everyone who’s already seated. Yep, it’s gross! But if you think that’s odd, you’ll want to check out these other 10 weird facts. (#yourwelcome)

 Travel Tip #1: Stay Hydrated

Most commercial flights get up to 39,000 feet in the sky; where the air is clean, clear and very, very dry. In fact, one article has gone so far as calling high altitude a sky desert! Up there in the clouds, the humidity on the plane can run at 10% or lower than the typical 40-60% humidity our bodies are used to down on earth. Consequently, these low levels of humidity affect our mucociliary clearance system. The MCS is our body’s first line of defense against germs, producing the mucus in the nose and throat. So when our bodies are lounging in Air Canada luxury at a high altitude, the natural immune protectors in our noses and throats become dry, leaving us wide open to accepting the germs in the environment around us.

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Water
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Water

However, before you get your earphones in a bunch there are somethings you can do to give your body a boost in these dry times: drink lots of water. Yes, it sounds cliché but water really is the source of life, people! With the proper hydration, you’ll effectively keep your system moist and strengthen its immunity. However, airports can be one big scam. To stay green and keep yourself from spending an extra $5 on bottled water at the gate, bring an empty bottle in your carry-on and fill up at a water fountain. Done! Beautiful! Let’s move on.

Travel Tip #2: Disinfect Your Life

Unless you plan on wrapping yourself in plastic like a surfboard, it’s inevitable you’re going to get a little germed up on your flight. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sit idly by and accept your fate. It may be time to take cleaning into your own hands. Though the plane gets cleaned between flights, the crew only has time to do so much.  So what do you do? The first step to clean is to make yourself aware of the dirtiest bits you’re being exposed to, like: seat pockets, tray tables and armrests. Yep… that tray table is not clean. Check out this list from CNN Travel to make yourself aware of the germy hotspots.

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Seat
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Seat

In this case, you definitely bring along along those disinfecting wipes. Though you may look like Howie Mandel, you’ll be as clean as Will Smith’s raps. In addition to disinfecting, you should also practice the art of touching as few surfaces as possible. Don’t really need to touch the window cover? Don’t! Want to feel the texture of the seat fabric in front of you? It’s not worth it. If your curiosity does get the better of you, just pretend everything is lava. However, you may want to make sure you’re okay with the moral side effects of being clean before you start jumping from seat to seat!

Travel Tip #3: Aisle Vs. Window

What I’m about to say may scare you, so make sure you’re sitting down (but not in the aisle seat). We all have our preferred seating on a plane, but you need to know the biggest difference between the aisle and the window seat. Though sitting near the aisle may give you more leg-room and better access to the restroom, it’s also the less clean option. Unfortunately, sitting closer to the aisle increases your chances of picking up germs. This is due to the sheer fact that other (potentially sick) passengers must walk by you on their way to the washroom.

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Window
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Window

But don’t be sad. There’s tons of perks when you choose the window seat! For instance, you can stop worrying about when the people beside you will need to get up. That means no more interruptions during the climax of your movie! Plus, sitting by the window will give you chance to really experience being in the clouds. As flying becomes a normal part of modern life, we tend to take our being 39,000 feet in the air for granted. We were not meant to fly, people! So take advantage, you paid enough for it.

Travel Tip #4: P for Prevention

In addition to these three measures you can take once you’re already on the plane, there are a few things you can do before you even step foot in the airport! As mentioned earlier, the decreased moisture in the air lowers the effectiveness of your immune system. Which is why you should try to boost your immunity ahead of time! For instance, try to get a good sleep before your flight– sleep deprivation decreases your immune system. Another great way to boost your immune system is to take nutritional vitamins and minerals before take off.  In addition, you could implement a little aromatherapy for a mental boost to get you through the entire process.

Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Face
Start Avoiding The Worst Part About Traveling Face

Sorry if I’ve scared you. But there’s one last thing you can do if you’re a hypochondriac. You’ve seen them on the TTC, you’ve seen them on TV… it might be time for you to get a face mask. Not only are face masks good at preventing you from ingesting germs and toxins, if you’re sick (and a good person) they are a great way to save other passengers from your ailment! Though it may get hot behind that mask, it’s worth trying out if you’re feeling a little anxious about your next flight. At the end of the day, all you can do is pray. Just kidding, you can follow these steps and hope for the best!

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand-Washing Debate | Toronto Maid Service

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand-Washing Debate | Toronto Maid Service

Ah, the dishwashing machine vs. hand-washing debate… Maybe you’ve argued with your college roommates, perhaps it was your mother or brother. Whoever you’ve had the pleasure of debating with, you’ve been on one side and they’ve been on the other. But you’re not alone. In fact, since dishwashers were invented, people have been wondering which is cheaper, which is more water-efficient, and which is more green.

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Dishes
The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Dishes

And these questions are not unfounded. Apparently, kitchen faucets and dishwasher machines account for eight to fourteen percent of all water that gets used in a home! Especially if you don’t have an aerator on your tap. But the arguments get even more complex, with some saying how washing dishes used to be constitute family bonding time. Yet others are adamant that dishwashers help mothers and single parents with the disproportionate amount of household work they face. So what’s cleaner, what’s more green- and most importantly…who’s right?

Hand washing vs. Machine: What’s Cleaner?

You might have heard that for dishes to really get clean, they have to be exposed to hot water. So it would be easy to think that with the heat dishwashing machines produce, they kill more bacteria. Ultimately leaving you with cleaner dishes. Well, you wouldn’t be wrong… but there’s more to the story than that.

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Glasses
The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Glasses

Apparently, all the bacteria that the heat kills may not be bad. In fact, there are potential health benefits that come from some microbes. For example, how some exposure to bacteria is a good allergy prevention technique. When it comes to hand-washing, some say that it’s actually much more effective than we give it credit for. In fact, hand-washing may allow you to get your dishes even cleaner than the machine.

Hand vs. Machine: What’s More Green?

When it comes to green cleaning, there are some clear cut benefits to hand washing. For instance, you control the water- so you know exactly how much you’re using. However, if you’re not careful you could actually end up being less efficient in terms of water and energy than a dishwashing machine! For example, a European study found that hand-washers use on average 27 gallons of water to wash 12 place settings. While hyper-efficient, modern dishwashing machines only use 4 gallons. Crazy, right?!

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Washing
The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Washing

Furthermore, the Environmental Protection Agency reported that using a dishwashing machine can save 5,000 gallons of water per home, annually. However, like anything else the efficiency of a dishwasher is determined by how you use it. For instance, running a cleaning cycle when you only have 5 dishes in in it is pointless. Similarly, running a more water-intensive cycle than is necessary will also decrease your efficiency. Plus, you should also know that older dishwashers are not as efficient as new, Energy-Star rated replacements.

End of the Debate?

Ultimately, dishwashing machines have a lot of benefits, like making parenting easier. However, there are many people who argue that handwashing is an important life-skill for children to learn. And perhaps even more importantly, a time for family bonding. However, if you’re having the debate with someone and they bring up the harmful phosphates in cleaning detergents… you may think they’ve got you. But did you know that the Canadian government banned phosphates in 2011? Though this may mean streakier dishes, it lessens the environmental impact from your dishwashing machine.

The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Sink
The Dishwashing Machine vs. Hand Washing Debate Sink

At the end of the day, it all comes down to your preference- but also how conscientious you are. If you are a diligent hand-washer, in terms of both clean and green, you have nothing to worry about. Similarly, if you prefer the hum of the dishwashing machine doing your chores – you can sit happy knowing you’re not killing the environment. However, you may want to find out the dirty truth about your dishwasher.

How Clean is Your TTC Station? | Toronto Cleaning Service

How Clean is Your TTC Station? | Toronto Cleaning Service

Many Torontonians depend on the subway over their cars to get around the city- but how clean is your TTC station? You might be surprised to hear that despite continuous efforts, initiatives and plans set into place by TTC maintenance staff, 30 stations did not meet the benchmark of cleanliness in the second quarter of 2017. However, there are only 63 stations within the subway system…meaning that less than half qualified as clean. Was your station clean? What makes a station clean in the first place? Inspired by this article

What a Clean TTC Station Means…

In ye old days, garbage used to be picked up from the TTC trains at the end of the day. Yep, the train cars only got cleaned after all the passengers had gotten off and the trains were safe and sound in the service yard. Can you imagine the pile up by the end of the day? Thank goodness the system changed! Now, you can see maintenance employees at terminal stations like Kennedy and Finch ‘spot cleaning’ trains before they start their route again.

How Clean Is Your TTC Station? Train

However, it’s not the garbage on the train, in the stations or even in the public restrooms that’s the biggest problem. Actually, what TTC employees are most concerned with is the litter that winds up on the tracks. In fact, if you’ve ever been scared by the phrase “smoke at track level” as the reason for a delay, it’s the fault of litter. Yep, all that paper and garbage in the tracks is the perfect recipe to start a fire.

What Makes a Station Clean?

When you think of cleaning, you might automatically think of dusting and washing. However, that’s not what happens at the stations. Because of size, a station will undergo a deep clean, on different cycles, performed by different crews, at different times of the year. For instance, major cleaning projects like floor polishing, and cleaning of escalators and elevators don’t happen that often. Plus, because of the cyclical nature of the cleaning, no one station will ever be in mint condition at any given time.

How Clean Is Your TTC Station? Track Garbage

In addition, there are other factors that can affect a station’s clean score, like whether they are above-ground. For example, above-ground and open air stations like Warden and Keele have more chance of experiencing issues like garbage flying onto the platform and into the tracks. You don’t need to be too worried about track fires though. Unlike the big cleaning projects that happen annually, track cleaning happens every few weeks.

How Clean is Your Station?

So, how does your station rank? If you haven’t put down your cell-phone long enough to notice the cleanliness of your commute, we’ll help you out. Firstly, you should know that the Bloor-Danforth Line is dirtier than the Yonge-University Line. In fact, St. George Station was the only one on Line 2 to meet the TTC’s cleanliness threshold. Though at the end of the day, the latest data gathered in 2017 reveals Woodbine to be the dirtiest station, and Rosedale to be the cleanest. However, you should note that even if an extra large Coke got spilled on the subway platform just before a cleaning audit, it would effect the station’s score.

Is your station one of the top 10 dirtiest or cleanest in the city? If you can’t find your station, check out this article for a complete list of cleanliness.

Dirtiest – Cleanest: Woodbine, Dundas West, Chester, Scaborough Town Centre, Donlands, Old Mill, Coxwell, Main, Dufferin, Pape.

Cleanest – Dirtiest: Rosedale, Davisville, King, Downsview, Wellesley, Museum, Queen, Ellesmere, North York Centre, Dundas.

TTC: One of the Cleaner Systems

However dirty or clean your station is, you can feel good knowing Toronto still has one of the cleanest subway systems in the world. In fact, despite it’s limited lines, the TTC won Transit System of the Year in North America! As TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said, “If you look around the world at cities that are moving millions of people, the TTC has one of the cleanest (transit systems)”. However, problems may arise when the new stations in Vaughan open in the future.

Despite being wildly convenient to commuters, and architectural masterpieces in their own right, these new Vaughan stations will be significantly larger than traditional ones. This means, they will require far more resources to be maintained. At the end of the day, only time will tell how the TTC will deal with those issues. Until then, riding the subway is still much more cost-effective than taking an Uber. Plus, check out our other article to find out even weirder facts about cleaning!

Tricks to Prevent a Soggy Doggy

Tricks to Prevent a Soggy Doggy – Residential Cleaning Tip

Your dog hates going out in the rain as much as you hate them getting wet- which is why we’re here to provide you with 3 tricks to prevent a soggy doggy! Because, rain isn’t going anywhere- especially not in the months leading up to winter. As humans, we have the luxury of thumbs and a wealth of manufactured gear to protect us from the rain. However, the same can’t be said of our furry friends.

3 Tricks To Prevent A Soggy Doggy! Wet Long Hair Spaniel
3 Tricks To Prevent A Soggy Doggy! Wet Long Hair Spaniel

Don’t you hate when you’re walking, it starts raining, and the drops splash right in your eye? Now try being a dog. Yea, it’s not fun. On the other side of things, cleaning up after a wet dog, and smelling them- is no fun either. Especially if you’re a dog owner in a condo. If you’re sick of cleaning the stink and the mess, read on. Because we’re going to give you some tips that will make both you and your pup happy.

Here’s Our Tricks To Keep Your Puppy Clean

1. Doggy Rain Coats: Yay or Nay?

There’s tons of doggy rain coats online, but are they really worth the effort and money? Though a coat will definitely keep that furry body warm and dry, many don’t shelter the most important thing: their head. Ultimately, your dog cares most about their little head getting wet. Don’t get us wrong, a raincoat is great for helping reduce that fresh, wet dog smell. However, there is still wide debate about their effectiveness, and interesting observations made by a cognitive scientist about why you shouldn’t put a raincoat on your dog.

Enter: The Dog Umbrella. This ingenious device might be the answer to all your rainy day cleaning problems! Why should you be the only on the walk with dry eyes? For under ten dollars, you could own this fabulously simple mechanism that attaches right onto your leash! In the meantime, while you’re waiting for your dog’s new best friend to arrive- hold a large umbrella over your pup as you walk. Yep, rainy days are about to get a lot easier!

2. Soggy Paws

When it comes to soggy paws, you have two options: let them roam free and deal with the cleaning consequences later- or invest in some booties. Letting your dog squelch their way through the walk might seem enticing… it’s natural after all! But it’s going to be a whole lot of work for you after. However, there are always ways to deal. If this sounds like you, it’s time to get some pet wipes. Made by John Paul, these wipes are just the thing to clean those soggy, muddy paws. Pre-moistened and uber gentle, these wipes are made to get into their paws and even wipe down their cute tummy!

If you want to avoid the paw-scenario all together (nature be damned) it’s time to get some booties! And yes, they are just as cute as they sound. If you’ve ever seen a cute pup walking around in balloon-like booties– they’re probably made by Pawz. To be honest, it’s pretty crazy how well these work. With these booties, you and your dog could be on the wettest walk of your life- and still come home with dry paws! That’s right, you could have a completely wet dog yet all paws remain fluffy and dry. And you know what that means…no extra cleaning for you!

3. The Soggy Doggy Smell

You can try to cover your dog from the rain as much as you want- and you’ll probably cover a lot. But there’s no way to get around the wet dog smell! Yet somehow…just as quickly as it came, the smell can go away. However, that going away will take time you might not have. Which is why you should get a cordless hair dryer. In fact, you may already use a hair dryer to quicken up the process, so why go cordless?

Well, going cordless means that you can leave it right by your door- drying your dog before bring their unique smell into the rest of your home. Plus, cordless means you don’t have to worry a plug being nearby. Additionally, a cordless dryer is key when your dog tries to run away from the loud and windy, alien machine! Furthermore, if the wet dog smell really bothers you, try getting your aromatherapy on by lighting some incense or a candle when you return from your walk!

Steps to Cleaning When You’re Depressed – House Cleaning Services

Steps to Cleaning When You’re Depressed – House Cleaning Services

It’s hard to take the steps to cleaning when you’re depressed. If you can’t even get out of bed, how are you supposed to get even one basic household chore done? However, looking around at your messy space can make you feel worse about everything, including yourself. Not only that, but the longer you wait, the more the chores build up. Ultimately, this exacerbates your depression, and makes you feel more overwhelmed and worthless than you might already.

Steps To Cleaning When You’re Depressed Bed
Steps To Cleaning When You’re Depressed Bed

By no means are we saying that cleaning will cure your depression. We all know that there is no one cure to mental illness (as great as that would be). However, making an effort to clean your space even a little bit each day can help you get out of the clutter-depression-anxiety cycle, and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you can relate, read on. We’re going to give you a few tips to consider.

Baby Steps to cleaning when You’re Depressed

When you’re in the midst of depression, your mind can make mountains out of molehills. Your laundry, the dishes, the dust… it can all feel paralyzing. Firstly, the most important thing to remember when you start even thinking about cleaning, is that you do not have to do everything right now. The point is, you’re trying to break the cycle in your mind. So, how do you put ‘baby steps’ into action? Well, it’s all about breaking up the big tasks into smaller, more doable ones.  Remember, this isn’t about cleaning your whole home. This is about cleaning one thing. Just one.

However, if you’re having trouble getting started… start small. Like, if you’re walking through the kitchen and see a dirty bowl on the counter instead of in the sink, pick it up as you walk through instead of letting it sit there.  Additionally, if you’re ready for something more challenging, try setting a timer on your phone to 5 minutes. In those 5 minutes, choose to clean one area as much as you can. Don’t worry if the area isn’t spotless when the time is up, it’s not about 100% clean- it’s about setting a goal and accomplishing it. Because, cleaning for these 5 minutes once a day will feel a lot better than not doing anything at all.

Clean As You Go

At the end of the day, conquering a mountain of kitchen-ware can feel impossible, and probably makes you cringe in pain every time you look or think about it. You’re not ‘being lazy’ by not cleaning when you’re depressed. You’re just depressed. But what if there was a way to get rid of pile ups all together? Well guess what, there is- and it’s called clean as you go. Just like it sounds, this refers to cleaning your dishes right after you use them, and putting away things once they’ve served their purpose.

Just consider, if you take care of the things you use now, you’ll have to use less effort to clean later. For example, cleaning up an egg spill is a lot easier to do right after it happens versus three days later. And not only will cleaning as-you-go help you feel less trapped and overwhelmed in the future, it will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment. For more ideas, check out our article that discloses the secret to cleaning less.

A Little Help Never Hurt Depression

Reaching out to anyone while you’re depressed can be one of the harder things to do. Reaching out to ask someone for help cleaning when you’re depressed is probably even harder. However, if you’re lucky enough to have a friend or relative who knows what you’re going through, don’t hesitate to call them up. In fact, having a friend to help you tackle that mountain of dishes or two loads of laundry might actually be…fun. And they don’t even necessarily have to help you clean. At the very least, they’ll be there for some chit-chat. Just the right amount to get you through the clean.

Steps To Cleaning When You’re Depressed Friends

However, if the mess is just too overwhelming- to the point where you’d rather move out then clean…it might be time to call a cleaning service. Asking for help isn’t a cop-out. No one said you have to do it on your own. There are no rules. In fact, if you do call a cleaning service, you could take the opportunity to go for a walk or take care of errands you’ve been putting off. However, the most important thing is to do what makes you feel the most comfortable. Whether it’s cleaning up by yourself, with a friend, or hiring a cleaning service…well that’s up to you!

It’s The Steps You Take…

At the end of the day, these cleaning feats, however large or small, will give you a sense of accomplishment and something to feel positive about. You’ll be able to look at your living room, your kitchen, or your bedroom and say “I did that”.  You made that happen. Even if it means you picked up the phone, called a cleaning service, and gave them the time and space to work. However, by even trying to do something small every day, you’ll notice that your space will get a little less messy over time. Plus, these tiny accomplishments give you something to be proud of.

Hopefully, the clean area or surface will serve as a reminder that you do deserve better, and you have what it takes to get yourself there. In fact, getting out of your head for even just five minutes each day can be enough to interrupt the depressive cycle going on in your head. Though cleaning will not cure your depression, you don’t deserve to live in a mess. Truth be told, cleaning when you’re depressed is possible. You are useful. You can accomplish something positive. Action is the best step to change, and baby, you’re getting close.

Everything You Need to Know About Uber Cleaning Fees – Deep Cleaning Service

Everything You Need to Know About Uber Cleaning Fees – Deep Cleaning Service

Due to #logic, many of us are riding with Uber – but we’re about to tell you everything you need to know about Uber cleaning fees. All too often, unsuspecting Uber customers are slapped with a bill that they don’t understand. For instance, you might be surprised when you’re charged an extra fee for your $10 Uber!

Everything You Need To Know About Uber Cleaning Fees Uber App
Everything You Need To Know About Uber Cleaning Fees Uber App

The scary part is, you’ll have to pay the fee because you agreed to their terms and conditions. We hope that you don’t find yourself in a messy situation! So, make sure to get these facts down before you get into your next Uber ride. Feeling anxious? We’ve got you. Read on to learn all about uber cleaning fees, charges and how to avoid them.

What Are Uber Cleaning Fees?

First things first- a ‘cleaning fee’ refers to the fee you’ll get charged if you damage the interior of your Uber driver’s car. In the case that your driver claims you’ve caused damage, you’ll be receiving an email from Uber. The email will explain the situation and the cleaning fee you now owe. Depending on the level of damage to the car, the cleaning fee could be anywhere between $20 to $150!

Everything You Need To Know About Uber Cleaning Fees Waiting

However, the fees are anything but random. In fact, they are based on national industry averages for professional cleaning services. In our case, that means Canada! However, you should always know what you’re getting into when you take Uber, so we’ll explain exactly how much you’ll be spending the next time you make a mess.

Cleaning Fee for Food & Small Drink Spills: $20

Luckily, small messes like food and liquid spills will only cost you $20. It’s because this kind of small damage only requires a basic cleaning, like vacuuming.

Cleaning Fee for Vomit & Medium Spills: $40

As you could imagine, cleaning vomit is going to cost you more than spilling your Slurpee. In fact, this category also covers liquids like pool or sea water! Though the Uber site does not clarify how one would get pool or sea-water into the car, they do outline the cleaning fee of $40! Bottom line: puke outside the window to avoid paying for a deep cleaning .

Cleaning Fee for Large Mess & Spills: $80

Unfortunately, if you vomit all over the back seat- your bad night won’t just end there. In fact, you’ll wake up to an $80 cleaning fee. This is because vomit and certain food and beverage stains are simply harder to clean when spilled onto car fabrics. If the damage is significant, the car will require detailing that costs an average of $80.

Cleaning Fee for Catastrophes: $150

Though people are rarely charged with this cleaning fee, it’s good to know about. When there has been a significant mess made by bodily fluids like urine, blood or vomit you’ll be charged $150. Furthermore, this fee applied to messes that have seeped between the window and door.

What You Don’t Know About Uber Cleaning Fees…

Now that you know exactly what cleaning fees are and how much you’ll get charged for specific messes, it’s time to dish out the info you don’t know. If you find that you’ve been fraudulently charged with cleaning fee, you can always dispute it by…Going to “Trip Issues and Refunds” on your profile, select “I want a refund” and “I was charged with a cleaning fee”.

When you split the Uber, you split the cleaning fee

Yes, this means that if you and your friends are riding in an uber and one person makes a mess- the cleaning fee is going to be everyone’s problem. In reality, if you have great friends they will likely offer to pay you back. However, you’ll still have to go through the Uber protocol of paying it yourself first.

Don’t try to settle the cleaning fee in the Uber

It’s human nature to want to settle things quickly. However, curb your instincts and wait for your cleaning-fee email to come instead of trying to give the driver cash upfront. There’s nothing to stop your driver from also submitting a reimbursement request to Uber- meaning you’ll have to pay twice. At the end of the day, there was no paper trail so Uber doesn’t know you’ve already paid for the cleaning. To avoid being scammed, wait for Uber to email you.

However, if you’re feeling hurt over the fee, just remember that your mess may have caused the driver a few hours (or even a few days) of work. Plus, you just made a mess in the Uber driver’s personal vehicle! While we’re on the subject of clean cars, check out our article on how to keep your car clean throughout the work week!
